Förderjahr 2021 / Projekt Call #16 / ProjektID: 5788 / Projekt: LoRa Databridge
In this very first blog entry we present the motivation and the core idea behind the project LoRaBridge.
Why?
You might already have heard of smart concepts. Nowadays they are ubiquitous: Smarthome can inform its user on e.g. unexpected events like water leaks or smart streetlights can be made more energy efficient by motion sensing. With well available sensor components everyone can today start to make their world a bit "smarter". As an example, one could place a wireless sensor to locations, which are not frequently visited such as an attic or a cellar. However, due to damping of wireless signals in walls, the short range sensors struggle to deliver data towards a user. Hence, the majority of the affordable wireless sensors can be mounted only within a limited range.
How?
In order to boost the wireless range, we adopt LoRa/LoRaWAN technology to build a flexible data-bridge gateway, which is able to collect data from short-range sensors and forward the sensors data robustly via LoRa link. Hence, a good coverage shall be achivable even in a large family house or office building.
Project status
Although the official project start is scheduled for Q1/2022, the project planning has already started. To this end, we took also part of the Netidee Community Camp 2021 to enrich the contents of the work packages.
